Papercrafting is an easy hobby to get into. You really don't need a ton of expensive supplies to have fun. Start with the basics and grow as you go.

A smart way to build your collection is to watch for supply bundles and gently used lots on Facebook Marketplace and eBay. I've scored some amazing deals on dies, paper, stamps and other tools this way.

The following are a few of my favorite things:

Cutting Tools: Precision Matters

Each card begins with precise, straight cuts, and for that purpose, I rely on the Fiskars Precision Paper Trimmer. It's compact, user-friendly, and delivers perfect edges without any fraying or uneven lines. Ideal for cutting cardstock to the right size or crafting layered elements. The blades are also widely available and easy to replace. If you're a beginner, this is an essential investment that will serve you well for years.

Scoring Board: Keep it Crisp

A scoring board allows you to precisely score and fold cards, giving them a professional look. I've been using my 12" x 12" EK Tools brand scoring board for at least a decade. Another popular option is combination tools that function as both a scoring board and a paper trimmer.

Adhesives: Stick it Together

My favorite is the Tombow MONO Multi Liquid Glue (green bottle) for intricate tasks due to its precision, clear drying, and strong hold that doesn't warp paper. For faster assembly, I rely on the Tombow MONO Tape Runner; it functions like double-sided tape in a convenient dispenser, ideal for attaching layers without any mess. I also frequently use Glue Dots to permanently attach larger embellishments onto my projects.

Paper: The Foundation of Your Creations

I recommend starting out with budget-friendly paper pads that give you a nice mix of colors and patterns. Places like Michaels, Hobby Lobby, or Amazon are perfect for grabbing some assorted basics.

Stamps and Ink: Adding Sentiment

Sentiment stamps are a worthwhile investment because they're reusable and add that professional touch. Pair them with a good quality ink pad like the Ranger Archival Ink—it's waterproof, acid-free, and gives crisp impressions every time, even on glossy surfaces.

Embellishments: The Fun Finishing Touches

Finally, embellishments take your cards from simple to stunning. I enjoy making my own using scraps, punches, or dies, but you can also find gems, ribbons, buttons, and stickers at craft stores like Michaels or Hobby Lobby, or online via Amazon. They're optional but add personality and dimension—start small and build your collection!
