My daughter absolutely loves Elmo—she won’t go anywhere without her beloved Elmo doll. So when it was time to plan her second birthday, a Sesame Street-themed party seemed like the perfect choice.

I had so much fun creating decorations, party details, and favors inspired by her favorite Sesame Street characters. Since I love creating paper crafts, I made several of the party decorations myself. I’ll be sharing tutorials for some of the projects in future posts, so be sure to check back if you’d like to make some of these decorations for your own Sesame Street party!

Below are some of the party ideas and crafts I made for her special day. If you’re planning a Sesame Street party of your own, I hope these ideas give you some inspiration!

If you are interested in making the Elmo face thank you cards, check out this post for a tutorial and free download. They would also make awesome invitations!

A Few of Our Favorite Things:

Matching Shirts and Socks

We had so much fun dressing up for the party! Dad, Mom and Memaw each wore a fun Sesame Street character shirt— Oscar, aka "Scram" for Dad, Abby Cadabby for Mom and Cookie Monster for Memaw.

The birthday girl wore a cute Elmo outfit, and I made her hair accessory to match. I simply attached a piece of feather boa to a hair clip and then glued two wiggly eyes and an orange pom-pom on top. It was such a fun little detail and the perfect finishing touch to her Elmo ensemble.

I also found some fun Sesame Street socks to coordinate with our shirts and complete our party outfits.

Party Decorations

I had so much fun putting my papercrafting skills to work to create decorations for the celebration! I made an Oscar the Grouch face and “Scram” sign, a personalized Sesame Street street sign, a Cookie Monster face, Elmo and Cookie Monster napkin rings, and an Elmo cake topper. I also made an Abby Cadabby wand to display above the dipped pretzels we handed out as one of the favors.

I’ll be sharing tutorials for some of these projects in future posts, so check back if you’d like to DIY decorations for your own party. I’ve already shared a tutorial for one of my favorite projects—the Elmo face greeting card, which includes a free download!

Poo-Poo Elmo

That's what my daughter calls him anyway. I had him on display in the bathroom as a little "Easter egg" at the party.

Potty time Elmo is a fun, interactive toy that makes a great toddler gift!

Neighborhood friends figurines

Need an easy cake topper idea? These poseable Sesame Street figurines worked well as little decorations! They were a fun little accent at the party, and they best part is that my daughter has continued playing with them long after the party was over.

Balloons

This GIGANTIC Elmo is a ton of fun and makes the perfect decoration for your party. He is over 5' tall!

The happy birthday and number balloons fit in great with the color scheme!

Sticker Sheets

Want to keep the kids entertained at the party and have a good laugh? Pick up this create-a-face book and let the kids use the stickers to create their own silly faces! It's a fun, easy party activity that also makes a great gift!

Here are a couple of their hilarious creations:

Loot Bags

Of course, no birthday party is complete without loot bags! Here are some of our favorite Sesame Street-themed goodies. I've included links to the items below the photo collage if you'd like to find them for your own party.

Planning and creating this Sesame Street party was so much fun! I loved adding personal touches throughout the celebration, from making the decorations and matching accessories to putting together fun favors and activities for the kids. It was especially fun to use my papercrafting skills to create unique decorations that made the party feel extra special.

I hope our Sesame Street birthday party gives you plenty of inspiration for creating a fun and memorable celebration of your own! Follow me on Pinterest for more party ideas, papercrafting projects, tutorials, and creative inspiration, and be sure to check back for more exciting projects. JJ❀
