Patriotic Thank You Card

My husband needed some masculine, patriotic thank-you cards, and I figured—why buy them when you can make them? :) These Z-Fold cards are simple to assemble and come together quickly once all of your paper pieces are cut. I especially love Z-Fold cards because they have a fun interactive design that feels a little more special than a traditional flat card.

For this project, I used the Stars and Stripes Forever collection by Echo Park Paper Company, but any red, white, and blue cardstock would work beautifully. A textured or embossed navy cardstock would also be a great substitute for the star patterned paper.

Setup:

You will get two card bases from one 8.5" x 11" sheet of cardstock. Score each base at 2.75", flip the cardstock over and score at 5.5".

You will need two panels measuring 2.5" x 4"

For the inside: the red measure 5.25" x 4" and the white measures 5" x 3.75"

I'm using Stars and Stripes Forever by Echo Park Paper Company. Solid blue cardstock that is textured or embossed would look great instead of the star pattern.

Stamp and Glue the Stars:

I used Tombow Mono Liquid Glue to attach the stars together.

After die cutting my stars, I used a small "thank you" rubber stamp with black ink. I then added a touch of Sheer Shimmer Stix in the color "sparkle" around the words. (the shimmer is hard to see in this photo) Shimmer Stix are easy to use and add subtle sparkle to any cardstock without warping it.

I’m really pleased with how it turned out—it adds a fun finishing detail while still keeping the card masculine and clean.

I used these star dies and my Sizzix for this project. I like the way the textured stitching looks on the edges of the stars.

If you don't have star dies you can use this template to print, trace and hand cut these stars out of cardstock. I used silver, dark blue and white cardstock.

Attach the Pieces:

I used smaller star dies from my set with silver cardstock and added them to the inside of the card for a fun accent. Stamps would also look great here!

Attach the Star:

Apply glue to the back of the left half of the star and position it on the front panel of your card. I prefer to use liquid glue instead of double-sided tape for this step because it gives a tiny bit of wiggle room to adjust the placement and make sure everything is perfectly aligned before it sets.
